Wizards of the Coast is the current publisher of Dungeons & Dragons, the 'original' role-playing game, having bought out the first publishers, TSR. As well as role-playing games, Wizards also produce trading card games, novels (most based on the games), magazines and electronic media releases.
The company was founded in 1990 by Peter Adkison and 6 friends, and three years later they launched the first trading card game, Magic the Gathering, which proved to be a great success. In 1999, the company was sold to Hasbro, but has continued to trade independently as a part of the Hasbro family.
