The second 'Storyteller System' game from White Wolf, this game explores the inner life of lycanthropes, werecreatures of many kinds, with all their traditions and rituals and concerns about the state of their world. Passing through three editions (all compatible with each other), it ceased production in 2004. In 2005, the New World of Darkness replacement line of Werewolf: The Forsaken was launched.

In 2012, the licence for this game was passed to Onyx Path Publishing and the 20th Anniversary Edition (known as W20) came out the following year.
