The Origin Awards are an annual award programme run by the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design (AAGAD) and presented at the Origins Games Fair in the USA in June.
The nominations are chosen by a 'Jury' of Academy members and announced after the GAMA Trade Show in March. The nominees are voted on by all members of the Academy to determine the winners in categories covering board and card games as well as role-playing games. Attendees at Origins Game Fair also may vote for a 'Fan Favourite' award in each category.
The Origins Awards were first presented in 1974, and have been awarded annually ever since, with categories changing and the scope expanding over the years.
AAGAD membership is open to anyone with a professional role within the gaming industry. The Academy also maintains a Hall of Fame of gaming luminaries and presents a Vanguard Award to seminal games.
