The Second Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying was launched in 2004 by Black Industries, a publishing subsiduary of Games Workshop, which ceased to publish role-playing games at the beginning of 2008, passing the licence to Fantasy Flight Games who continued to publish the line before coming up with their own Third Edition in 2009.
The Second Edition is similar to the First Edition, with the expected streamlining and improvement that nearly two decades of play bring. The biggest change is to be found in the magic system, where a risk of released chaos (and being accused of being a witch) replaced the use of spell points as the cost of magic. Spells concentrated more on affecting individuals rather than battlefield units, and there were different schools with their own signature spells enabling far greater customisation of spell-casting characters.
