The Birthright campaign setting for AD&D 2e was released by TSR in 1995. Devised by Rich Baker and Colin McComb, it is a radical departure from previous settings, for here players take on the role of rulers of different nations on the continent of Cerilia on a planet called Aebrynis, and devote their time and energies into jokeying for position rather than on adventuring.

In giving players richly-developed nations to rule, it's also created a wonderfully-detailed campaign setting repleate with intrigue that has uses far beyond classic Birthright games.

Wizards of the Coast are now releasing the setting books as PDFs.
