Based on a character in a comic called 2000AD, there have been three role-playing games licenced to use the eponymous character and setting. The first was published by Games Workshop in 1985, and used a ruleset similar to their Warhammer RPG. In 2002, Mongoose Publishing acquired a licence and produced their first Judge Dredd RPG using the D20 ruleset. In 2009, they produced a second game using their version of the Traveller ruleset.

In 2018, a fourth game, Judge Dredd and the Worlds of 2000AD was launched in a Kickstarter campaign that funded in mere minutes by EN Publishing.
