The Shattered Empires RPG came about when Paradigm Concepts decided that the Arcanis RPG they were writing was taking too long! The Shattered Empires design team decided that the game system was robust and dynamic enough for low levels of play, but that they had not had enough opportunity for higher level play testing. So they elected to delay release of the core rulebook until June 2011, to coincide with the Origins Games Fair. Instead, Paradigm released a Quicklaunch version of the Shattered Empires RPG system to accommodate beginning level play. This Quicklaunch version was an affordable soft cover version made available at Origins 2010, and for store and mailorder shortly thereafter. It contained all of the rules needed for more than a year's worth of expected play. They also lauched the Chronicles of the Shattered Empires shared campaign, inheritor to the Living Arcanis shared campaign.
