Warhammer 40K Role-Playing

Fantasy Flight Games

Starting as a miniatures skirmish game from Games Workshop, for many years it has been a dream of players and publishers alike to see a role-playing game using the setting, and finally Fantasy Flight Games have produced not one but a whole line of interlocking but independent game lines! The first Dark Heresy books came out in 2007 from Black Industries, a Games Workshop subsiduary, but when that was closed down early in 2008 the rights were passed on to Fantasy Flight who have been building the whole range ever since.

Set in the dark, gothic future of Warhammer 40K where the Imperium of Man is beset by dangers within and without, and sharing common game mechanics, each line allows characters to explore a different aspect. Interestingly, not until the third line, Deathwatch, did the opportunity to play the infamous Space Marines from the miniatures game occur.
