The Fourth Edition of Shadowrun was published in 2005 by FanPro, and it is now published and supported by Catalyst Game Labs. As the rules have been completely rewritten from the ground up, materials written for earlier editions are not compatible - at least as far as the game mechanics are concerned. The timeline has been moved forwards to start at 2070, and earlier source material is still usable although they may contain historical rather than current information. The 2012 release of Shadowrun 2050 is designed to empower games in the 1e setting using 4e rules.

Shadowrun Missions is the official shared campaign, in which characters can participate in adventures at conventions and even within their home group.
