After leaving TSR, Gary Gygax (one of the original creators of Dungeons & Dragons) joined forces with Game Designers Workshop to produce a new game, which was intended to provide a core rules mechanic that could be used in many different settings, the first being a mediaeval one called Mythus set on an alternate Earth where magic really worked. Unfortunately TSR deemed it to be too similar to D&D and sued, bringing about the demise of the game after only a few of the books had been released. It's an excellent game, though, and if you get the chance to pick up any copies take it! A few titles are available in PDF format on DriveThruRPG... under Wizards of the Coast.
