The Serenity RPG was released in 2005 by Margaret Weis Productions, and is based on the Firefly TV series and its spin-off movie, Serenity. Telling the tale of a bunch of mavericks and scoundrels exploring the universe in a beat-up spaceship, many gamers regarded it as the closest media representation of your average Traveller campaign, yet here it is in all its glory as a stand-alone game, using the Cortex game mechanic. Replete with screenshots and even snippets of Chinese, the whole product line is an excellent recreation of the TV show for your tabletop.

Sadly, the licence expired 31 January 2011, so while the 'dead-tree' versions will still be around, PDFs have been withdrawn from sale.

Fortunately, in 2013 a new game - the Firefly RPG - was launched, also from Margaret Weis Productions but now using their enhanced Cortex Plus ruleset... this version is fast, furious, fun and reflects the show extremely well.
