A wide scope indeed, and if you are running a game in the contemporary world, you may find inspiration all around you as well as in the pages of fiction, or from the screen... yet particularly if your game is set in a particular genre - say police procedural or espionage - books, films and TV shows may prove useful! Not to mention general background 'feel' especially if your game is set somewhere that you haven't visited yourself.
